Teardrops of Aral

Aral Sea. Large-scale exploitation of the rivers that feed it has resulted in the loss of 90% of its water volume, turning the once great sea into a salty desert. Dust storms raging here annually carry more than 100 million tons of dust and toxic salts thousands of kilometers into the atmosphere, causing serious health problems such as oncology, anemia and other health problems for people living in the region.

Our task is to draw people’s attention to this problem, emphasizing the consequences of inaction and causing concern for their future and the future of their children.

We decided to approach this task from a scientific point of view and convey the idea using the example of litmus paper and other similar tools of instant analysis (Ph level, thermal paint, etc.), known to a wide audience since school.

The surface of the banner in contact with raindrops acquires an acid yellow color and the inscription “Beware, the rain may contain poisonous salts of the Aral Sea!” appears.

The billboards will also have a large QR code with a link to the web page of the fund, containing a detailed description of the problem, an appeal to save the Aral Sea and a donation system.

The purpose of the campaign is to inform the population about the existence of such a “time bomb” as the Aral Sea and to attract resources (fundraising) to prevent irreversible consequences. All donations will be used to plant saxaul to stabilize the sandy soil.
